Dearest lovelies,
Wedding magazines: I really don’t like them. I’m sure they have a place in some people’s hearts but to me they are entirely unrealistic. They are expensive, they set your sights ridiculously high and they are very same-y. I would even go as far to say they are outdated for many, many people.
So where should you be looking?
When I am asked where to start with wedding planning, I always recommend heading to the web rather than buying magazines. The web is free, the web is easy to use and you can do it at work without getting caught!
So on that note, today, I want to talk two of my favourite things: weddings and blogs.
There is a world of wedding blogs out there. I know because at one point I was reading over 100 of them. Judge away (I did), but I gained some very valuable knowledge from this CDO (OCD in alphabetical order) behaviour. Not only did I learn a lot, but due to my enthusiasm for wedding blogs, I won a two hour Skype chat with a wonderful wedding planner and we won our wedding photography! Amazing! This literally saved us thousands of pounds.
Which ones should you be reading to get the best ideas for your wedding?
Before I get to that, if you’d like to know how to get time to read these sites, rather than having to click on each of these sites every day to see if they’ve updated, you can use an RSS reader. I recommend Bloglovin. Create a profile for free and add these blogs. You can access all the blogs you need in one place. Easy peasy!
Without further ado, here is the list, get a cup of something hot, prepare to wade knee-deep in gorgeousness.
- Love My Dress (UK, often vintage, always gorgeous)
- Offbeat Bride (American, alternative, fun)
- Rock My Wedding (UK – sometimes quite traditional but very pretty!)
- Boho Weddings (UK – wedding planner rather than inspiration blog, but she often styles very pretty weddings)
- Adore Wedding (written by Rebecca Adlington’s sister, randomly)
- Green Wedding Shoes (American, great for inspiration)
- Ruffled (great for crafty inspiration)
- One Fab Day (Irish, lovely for all the “pretty”)
- A Practical Wedding (very good for “how-to”s)
- Broke-ass Bride (very useful, as they run an agony aunt column which has proved very useful)
- Budget Savvy Bride
- DIY Wedding
If you think I’ve missed off a good ‘un, please let me know! ;o)
With love,
Maddy
