Sharing is Caring…

Hello lovelies,

It’s been a busy time here at MaddyRedPen HQ and I’m pleased to announce a new addition to the blog. Check out the new social media icons in the sidebar ———–>

Feel free to ooh and ahh!

It’s becoming increasingly obvious that all my efforts online need to be tied in together in a much more cohesive way, so here’s the place where you can find it all. You can see how much I love to share on Instagram, Pinterest (I’m still a newbie there, so bear with) and of course the old favourites, Twitter and Facebook.

That’s all for now folks, more soon I promise!

With lots of festive love from Goa,

Maddy x

Why wedding magazines aren’t useful any more….

Dearest lovelies,

Wedding magazines: I really don’t like them. I’m sure they have a place in some people’s hearts but to me they are entirely unrealistic. They are expensive, they set your sights ridiculously high and they are very same-y. I would even go as far to say they are outdated for many, many people.

So where should you be looking?

Looking everywhere may feel overwhelming...

Looking everywhere may feel overwhelming…

When I am asked where to start with wedding planning, I always recommend heading to the web rather than buying magazines. The web is free, the web is easy to use and you can do it at work without getting caught!

So on that note, today, I want to talk two of my favourite things: weddings and blogs.

The photo that helped us win our wedding photography via a wedding blog!

There is a world of wedding blogs out there. I know because at one point I was reading over 100 of them. Judge away (I did), but I gained some very valuable knowledge from this CDO (OCD in alphabetical order) behaviour. Not only did I learn a lot, but due to my enthusiasm for wedding blogs, I won a two hour Skype chat with a wonderful wedding planner and we won our wedding photography! Amazing! This literally saved us thousands of pounds.

Which ones should you be reading to get the best ideas for your wedding?

Before I get to that, if you’d like to know how to get time to read these sites, rather than having to click on each of these sites every day to see if they’ve updated, you can use an RSS reader. I recommend Bloglovin. Create a profile for free and add these blogs. You can access all the blogs you need in one place. Easy peasy!

Without further ado, here is the list, get a cup of something hot, prepare to wade knee-deep in gorgeousness.

If you think I’ve missed off a good ‘un, please let me know! ;o)

With love,

What you need for your wedding…

In honour of being mentioned on today’s Love My Dress real wedding entry, I’d like to offer the first 5 lovely readers who contact me, the very special price of just £150 (normally priced from £200) for creating your own wedding website complete with online wedding gift list.

It’s very easy to think about just how much needs to be done for a wedding these days. Even for the most low key weddings, there still seems to be a to-do list as long as your arm. My aim is to relieve that pressure a little.

Wedding Sites – why are they so great?

I love creating wedsites. It’s so much quicker to look up details of the big day, to find out who’s who, what to wear and how to get there. There are so many things you can put on your wedding website now! Of course, privacy is important, so some couples choose to give out the website details, together with a password for secure entry, to their guests in the invite.

I can create using budget-friendly sites such as Blogspot or WordPress or use a wedding hosting site such as MyWeddingGetting Married or Project Wedding. I work with you to help create a wedsite that truly reflects you and your special day.

Tell me about bespoke wedding gift lists

Most couples these days have been living together for a while. They have pots and pans, they have bedlinen. Let’s face it, there are a lot more options now as to what you would like as a gift from your nearest and dearest. In this day and age, no matter how vintage we want our wedding to look, we want choices!

The idea to create bespoke wedding gift lists came from planning my own wedding, and seeing friends frustrated with wanting bespoke lists to fund their honeymoons.

Here’s some comments from a happy client!

“…Amongst the many services (MaddyRedPen) provides, she creates websites to your specification. All the information about our wedding day was online for all our guests to view, from maps of the venue, how to get there, timings for the day, and our Wedding Gift List. As we were going travelling for 3 months after the wedding we wanted our guests to be able to gift us experiences which we could enjoy along the way….Maddy made such a seemingly tricky task so simple and easy for our guests to use, linking it with our PayPal account. Absolutely genius!”

Travel Blogs & Wedding Blogs – how did I get here?

The year of 2013 saw the launch of Paddy & Maddy’s Adventures which made the move from email PDFs sent from our travels around India to Blogspot in March, and most recently here to WordPress in September. I’ve often enjoyed leaning towards the gung-ho approach, and so it was that our adventures were made public.

My husband & I won a competition with the prize of a wedding photographer through a wedding blog called Under the Vintage Veil and it was here that my passion for weddings became clear. I wanted to share what I’d learned with others. You can read those pieces here and here. As a result, I love to help others with their wedding in a very clear and practical way.
